The first in it’s class, the Browning tactical safe is one sturdy box. There were no predecessors of tactical gun safes in the gun safe industry so the browning tactical has set the standard. The inside is not just designed for long hunting rifles, but can hold tactical guns. It can hold the odd shapes and fits all the extra requirement needs of those needing something for combat.

Those in this series have been crafted with 11 gauge steel. They hols short guns as well as long guns. It has a mirror on the back and interior lighting so that you can see everything within the safe at a glance. Gun safes serve many purposes. First of all, they help protect your firearms from burglary, fire, and flooding. They also keep curious children from endangering themselves with your weapons. In addition, most people end up using them to store other valuables, such as jewelry and important documents. If you own firearms, you really need a gun safe. Locking musket cabinets may look pretty and give the illusion of security, but they are easily broken into. Quality firearm cabinets provide real protection that you can count on.

Top Ten Things To Look For

12 Gauge

1) Gauge

Gauge is the measurement of the thickness of the steel. The main thing to remember is the lower the gauge the thicker the steel. With any safe, the door is the most secure part. The top and sides will be vulnerable to attack from power tools in case of a burglary. If you opt for a cheap lock box with a high gauge, make sure you don’t leave your power tools near it. Even if you go for a more expensive vault with 8 gauge steel or thicker keep your power tools stored separately. You can get around this issue entirely by installing it into the wall or in a closet so that the tops and sides of the casing are not accessible.

2) Locking Mechanism

Mechanical Lock

The type of locking mechanism that is preferred will depend on whether you want pistol box or a rifle cabinet. The most common reason for a pistol box is to store a firearms right by your bed so that it is readily available in case of a break in. Biometric safes are the best choice for these. All you have to do is touch the reader with your finger and the receptacle opens. If you don’t want to go for a biometric then get a manual key locking one. If you get an electronic combination box it will likely beep with every button you press and if you are in a hurry and mess up the code, it will only beep some more.

Rifle safes should almost always be locked with a mechanical lock, not an electrical lock. If you are looking at owning a cheap firearm cabinet, that is all the more reason to not trust the locking mechanism. If you are dropping a few grand on a vault, you know that all electronics fail eventually so why risk it. The exception is with those great brands like Cannon that offer a lifetime warranty on their bunkers. Then it is reasonable to spring for the electric combination lock in my view.

Internal Hinges

3) Internal Hinges

Anti-burglary features are very important. One with internal hinges will usually withstand a burglary attack for longer than one with external hinges. A burglar can remove the hinges to take off the door of a low quality lock box. With a high quality cabinet the location of the hinges doesn’t matter as much; they have thick locking bolts that will keep the door in place. So the rule is simple: if you get a repository under $1000, make sure it has internal hinges. For the more expensive options it doesn’t really matter.

4) Price

Cheap Safe

We’re all thinking about the price. When you consider the cost of your firearms, it seems a bit counterproductive to look for the cheapest gun safes for sale you can find, but that’s exactly what a lot of people do. There is always going to be a limit to how much you can afford to spend and not everyone can have the biggest and the best. If you must buy a cheap shell, stick with a well-known and trusted brand such as Sentry or Stack-On. If you are tempted to try saving money by purchasing a weapons cabinet from an unknown manufacturer, remember that you’ll never really know how well such a box will hold up to a burglary attempt or fire until it’s too late. If the only reason that you are getting a cabinet is to meet local laws about locking up your firearms, than any inexpensive receptacle will meet your needs. Just understand it will be useless against robbery and natural disasters. It’s better to stick with an established brand that has a good reputation than to take a chance on an unknown manufacturer. If you are looking at a long term investment, you should be looking at rifle cabinets over $1200.

When it comes to pistol boxes, you will find a selection of glorified pistol cases under $100. These will do for a variety of purposes but you may want to consider something more sophisticated if you expect to keep your kids out of your sidearms. A price range of $150-$300 should meet your needs.

5) Fire and Water Resistance

Water/Fire Resistant

Protection from fire is one of the biggest concerns when comparing firearm cabinets. Statistically a fire is a greater threat to your firearms than a burglary. Bear in mind that it’s difficult to determine which fireproof choice is the best when it comes to fire resistance because there is not a standard test for this so you’ll need to brush up on some fireproof gun safe reviews. Different manufacturers use different tests and labs to come up with their fire resistance ratings, and there is no way to accurately determine which one provides better fire protection without uniform testing for fire rating. However, if you have narrowed down your choices to a specific brand based on other features, you can trust that two from the same manufacturer that have a higher fire resistance rating do indeed provide better protection than other models in the same line.

Flood protection is something you might not think about if you are not in a flood zone, but it is just as important as fire protection. The reason for this is that firefighters use water to put out fires. If your home catches fire, the fire resistance will do no good if it becomes flooded with water from the firemen’s hoses. Look for a fine sturdy cabinet that will protect your firearms from both fire and flooding.

6) Capacity

36 Capacity

The first feature you’ll probably think about when shopping for a safe is the size. Obviously, you need to buy ones that is big enough to hold all of your firearms; 58″ is the minimum height for standard rifles. What you may not realize is that you probably need a bigger one than you think. First you have to consider that depending on the size of your firearms, you can expect to fit half of the advertised capacity into it. Then, once you have it in your home, it will be the most secure place in your house to store valuables. Before you know it, your wife will be storing her expensive jewelry there, and you’ll start finding other items that you’d like to have protected from either burglars or fire, such as your will and other important documents. In addition, you’ll need extra space in case you buy more firearms. You don’t want to have to buy a new one every time you add a few more firearms to your collection.

7) Bolts and Relockers

Relockers Inside

Although the number of bolts one uses has some bearing on the security, it doesn’t matter how many there are if they can be easily defeated by drilling. For this reason, an important anti-burglary features is the presence of relockers. These are spring loaded pins that are set up to trigger if it is tampered with. Relockers make breaking into a rifle safe extremely difficult since it would take hours of drilling to get through just one of them. However, relockers are only found on premium vaults, advertised as having Group II locks. If you are looking at one that does not have relockers, consider the thickness of the bolts a good indicator of security. Anything over an inch will serve you well.

8 ) Installation

Both revolver and rifle safes should be bolted to furniture or the floor, preferably reinforced. Where ever you put your pistol box make sure it is secured. Someone could easily walk off with your pistol lock-box and worry about opening it later. Get one that you can bolt to a drawer or that can be installed in your wall. You’ll be glad you did.

9) Brand

Cannon is my favorite brand when it comes to top of the line brands. The Browning and the Liberty gun safes are way up there too. Sentry makes the best middle of the line cabinets. Homak and Stack-On also do alright too, giving you a good bang for your buck. When it comes to vaults for handguns, GunVault has some terrible reviews due to their failing locking mechanism, but they remain one of the more popular brands. I personally recommend a BARSKA biometric or a LOCKSaf Biometric safe for a sidearm safe.

10) Shipping and Availability

Gun safes are heavy! Shipping can cost a fortune. You want to find free shipping to your door if possible. some retailers advertise free shipping but it is not actually available. They ship to a local pick up place or sometimes even drop off at the nearest major road. With that kind of service, you’d be better off paying for shipping.

Availability is another big thing. Many come with options packages. If you want to add an extra option it might take longer to ship and might not be in stock. With any store you use, be sure to check on customer service and make sure they have good service testimonials.

Best Gun Safes Under $100

There are a surprising amount of gun safes under $100. You cannot expect the same quality from these less expensive ones as you would with them ranging in the thousands. Still, these are great starter lock boxes, or great for those who want to keep their kids out of their firearm collections.

Prices do change, so it is possible that since compiling this that some of these have slipped above the $100 mark, but they are all inexpensive and good quality.

Some of My Favorite Gun Safes Around $100:

Gunvault GV1000D-DLX Mini Vault Deluxe

$110.06

This is one of several under $100 offered by GunVault. This one has a quick access via an electronic combination. It is perfect for a bedside box. If you hear something odd going on in your home, you will feel secure knowing that your firearm is just wthin reach with this one. It is only large enough to hold one, maybe two handguns, but if you put in two, you would risk getting one scratched.

As with all electronics products, there is the risk of the electronic function failing eventually. That is why this one has a key opening as well. You can never be locked out of yours in case you forget to change the batteries or a wire burns out inside.

Stack-On IWC-55 Full-Length In-Wall Cabinet

$99.97

The Stack On Wall Cabinet is a great buy for under $100. Wall cabinets can be pretty pricey. Now, this one is small. As is shown in the picture, you will really only be ably to fit a handful of firearms in there. It comes with adjustable shelves, so you can add in other valuables if you feel inclined.

Installation of this Stack On gun cabinets is simple. You will need to cut a hole in the wall and mount the cabinet to some studs. It comes with mounting materials. This is an easy home improvement project and one that no one needs to know about. It will go great in the back of a closet or in any tucked away in a corner.

Winchester E-Vault Personal w/ Electronic Lock

Price Not Found

Winchester is one of the names that you can really trust. When I saw that they had one under $100, I knew I had to include it. Not only that, but it had great reviews. This Winchester handgun safes has a four part combination. That will be easy enough to remember, but not so easy to crack.

The one is super secure. It has a plush felt interior, so you won't ever have to worry about your firearm being scratched. This is another one that is great for a bedside table or where ever you may need quick access to your firearm. Winchester owners are boasting about this. Many get several, one for the home, one for the office, one for the car. I don't blame them, expecially with such a low price.

Stack - On® 8 Rifle Security Cabinet

$108.50

This is what is commonly referred to as a rifle locker or a gun cabinet. Let's remember that we are loooking for one under $100 here. This is not the top of the line, but it is pretty impressive for what you pay for. One reviewer said it held BB rifles. That is pretty good. With rifle cabinets, you generally want to double the capactiy that you need, so this is a good cabinet if you need to store four to six firearms.

I haven't seen any companits about the locking mechanism. Of course, the metal is possibly the thinnest on the market. This won't stand up against a robber with a tool. Don't store it near your own tools or else it will definitely not stand up to a robbery. It will stand up to some kids that you want to keep out of your rifles.

Quarter Master 7650 PISTOL BOX

$89.56

This safe is an excellent one under $100. It would be at the top of my list for handgun safes in this price range. First off, it comes with a ten year warranty, which is exceptional considering the price. Second, is is one of the most versatile handgun safes that I have seen, period.

You can mount it to your wall, floor car, whatever. You can attach it to something. Then, you can seperate the part with you firearm and any other vauables so that it is portable. The mechanism that attaches it is pretty much burglar proof, though, so you don't have to worry about someone else running off with your whole safe. It is electronic with a key bakcup lock.

Storing items in your vehicle can be a problem because transporting items means these items can incur damage from unwanted impact in the transportation process, such as from potholes on the road, or suddenly hitting the breaks. If the items you are storing or protecting are either sensitive or could cause problems if not stored and transported properly, consider a truck gun safe. These valuable storage solutions not only store—they also protect from theft by keeping your valuables away from possible robbers or thieves.

TruckVault is a brand that is also popular for SUV’s. Their products can be customized, and are used by regular people and law enforcers—such as policemen and firemen, alike. They are made out of MDO’s or Medium Density Overlay—a material that is so tough it is used for sign boards used for highways, guaranteed to endure impact from strong natural forces as torrential rains, storms, as well as strong winds, etc.

Another good thing about this material is that it is resistant to moisture, and so storing your firearms or camera and other sensitive items in your truck is not a problem—add to that its quality of making less noise than metal, and so this also eliminates the problem of worrying about any annoying rattling. This truck gun safe wastes no space, too, as its drawers can extend up to 4 times the length of the vault. In addition, with the waterproof Line-X technology, these safes were made with the intention of protecting your valuables and allowing them to survive harsh conditions. Caring for them is as easy as caring for your appliances.

And if you didn’t think things could get any better, think again: these safes are Green. They make use of carpeting and matting that are environment-friendly. People from birdwatchers to hikers to outdoor photographers use a truck gun safe. You might want to consider if, given the things that you transport from your home to work or other locations, getting one will benefit you, too.

Firearms symbolize many things, and can give one some sense of control. They not only provide this, but also security and protection not only for yourself, but also your loved ones. Owning firearms, however, require a huge amount of responsibility. This “protection” can turn around and turn into “danger” if these powerful tools are not stored in the right place and kept from those who might play with them, or might be irresponsible with them. This is when it is best to consider investing in a rifle cabinet.

Investing in a top-caliber rifle cabinet is a wise idea. As a responsible firearms owner, you may not only want to do what is right by abiding by the law, but you would also want to protect your children or other people that might get access to the firearms that you have in your house. In addition, firearms are not cheap. They are quite costly, and if not protected properly, they can also acquire damage from rust or any other possible damage that might affect their functionality, and when this happens, your firearm could, again, become a source of danger and not protection. This is the last thing that any firearm owner wants.

It is practical to own a rifle cabinet, not only to keep them safe from kids, but also because they serve not only to store guns, but also other accessories or items as clay pigeon traps and bullets. Having a rifle cabinet also means practicality and keeping all your guns and accessories in one place. This way you do not have to go searching all over your house for these items.

There are many cheap gun cabinets for sale, start with the links above. You want to ensure that you not only get one of good quality, sturdy material, but also one that is authorized by the police department. These cabinets should cost a few hundred dollars, but if you are a responsible firearm owner and safety is your priority, be wise and make this investment.

When it comes to gun security cabinets, when I hear the word “Cannon”, I think “security”. Cannon is a top-of-the-line manufacturer of gun safes that offer a warranty that includes parts, shipping and labor—for free, in the event of natural disasters such as a flood, or fire, or even attempted burglary. The five main Cannon safes are: Traditional, Cannon, Patriot, American Eagle and Safari.

The Traditional Series, or the Rounded Body as they are otherwise known, is functional and beautiful, made only of the most durable material. The cream of the crop and has set the standard for how they should be. Inside, the classy Traditional safe showcases rounded edges for extra security (it has several re-lockers) and defense against fire, as it is guaranteed to leave your valuables undamaged by fire for an hour and a half, even in 1200°F temperature. It is complete with a luxurious upholstery and shelving with an oak façade. Even though the Cannon Traditional is quite pricey, it is well worth the cost, and costs less than a lot of safes that cannot offer as much security.

Next is the Cannon series, which features locking bolts that are plated, as well as a handle with 3 spokes (a handle that makes you feel as if you are unlocking a bank vault). Its door is made of steel and is almost 2 inches thick. For added protection from burglary, the Cannon series also has several re-lockers and protects against 1200°F heat for half an hour. Most of these features are a lot like those of the Patriot.

If you’re on a low budget, the American Eagle is a good option for you, as it is the most affordable among Cannon’s. It protects against fire, has a 1-inch steel door, and has a key-locking dial, as well as a dehumidifier.

If you are looking for the ultimate security solution—and this is the other name this series is known by, go with the Safari Safe. It features 2 steel doors that are over 2 inches thick. Like Traditional, it is guaranteed to protect your valuables in 1200°F heat for an hour.

Read gun safes reviews of the top selling gun safes online. Be informed before you buy.

When you are looking to buy a gun safe for yourself and your family, gun safe reviews must be the top priority of your research. Gun safe manufacturers are going to put the best face forward. They are trying to sell you the product. Reviews come from people who have used the product over a period of time, often for years. They know the product in and out. You will find a lot more from gun safes reviews than you ever will from a product description page. Reviews are the best defense against a bad purchase. Here are some things to look out for:

Failing electronics is one of the most common complaints. If the gun safe you are looking at only opens electronically, look for this in the reviews. Sometimes the problem is a biometric gun safe that won’t recognize the fingerprint on the first try after several months of use, or even after the sixth try. Sometimes, the electronics just fail, and you are locked out of your safe. This is not good. Then you will need to learn the art of breaking into your safe. Many like having an electronic safe that also can be opened by key just in case. This is highly recommended, as all electronics will fail with time, and you want your safe to be a part of your home for a long time.

If you are getting an electronic safe that you need to install, see if anyone has anything to say about how the batteries are replaced. Batteries will be located in different places in different safes. Make sure that they are easy to access if you are going to be having it installed in the wall or under a desk. Also, some reviews will give you details about how frequently a battery will need to be replaced. Some should be changed every ninety days where others can safely go a year or more, depending on use, of course.

One of the worst things from an electronic safe can be the lack of stealth. If you get an electronic handgun safe for your bedside, you have it there for protection in case of intruders. You don’t want that thing beeping or lighting up when you go to open it. Some reviews will say that this is the only problem with the safe, but if that is your purpose for having the safe, you may need to keep browsing.

If you will be keeping all of your valuables, jewelry, cash, heirlooms, in your safe, you need to look to see if anyone has been robbed with this safe. If you are getting a safe for all of your valuables, and not just to protect your kids from your guns, then you need to be spending some serious money on your safe. Many people buy cheap safes expecting them to last in fires and through thefts. This is unrealistic. The gun safe reviews will help you decide on this.

There are some thing in gun safes reviews that should be disregarded. A shipping problem, like damage due to poor shipping, is not a review of the product. It is a review of the seller. There are many sellers on Amazon, and you may not be buying from the same seller as the reviewer. However, if you are planning on keeping valuables in the safe and it is easily damaged due to poor shipping, this is an indicator of a lower quality product.

Slow shipping in a gun safes review is also a review of the seller. Keep in mind, these things are heavy. They are very heavy. Gun safes reviews don’t always talk about this, but it will naturally take a while to ship. If the only thing a reviewer has to say about the safe is that it ships slow, than the reviewer simply knows very little about the safe.

Fingerprint and Biometric Gun Safe Advantages

A biometric gun safe only opens when scanning your fingerprint. This is pretty cool, because then no one can get into it except you. There are some disadvantages as well. Here are some things that you must consider when getting one of these.

There is no doubt about it: there is no type of gun box that you can get into faster than a biometric gun safe. You just put your finger on the scanner and it will open right up. These are ideal for those of us relying on our firearms for quick protection. They work well in your bedside gun safe drawer, so you can get right into it if you hear an intruder enter. Many install them under their desks at work, although I don’t think I need one of these at my job. Some people even use them in their cars. This is a great option for women who always want to keep their firearms safely in their car.

How many fingerprints can you program into it?

You probably want your spouse to have access to it. You would hate to have her alone when something happened without access to what’s inside. Just make sure you have complete control over who can and who cannot program their finger prints in to it. Some prefer to have only one person have access to it, where others want several family members to have access in case of an emergency.

Do you trust the electronic device?

Obviously, they work electronically. You need to be selective in choosing your firearm lockbox. Know how frequently you need to change the batteries. Know how to change the batteries. Some of these can be tricky. Gun safe reviews will tell you roughly how long these electronics will last. You don’t want to be locked out in a year or two, or have to get a replacement security box.

Is there a back up manual opening for your it?

Even if you totally trust the company, and think that it will last for 30 years without ever having a problem with electronics, it is a good idea to get one that can be opened manually as well. Look for a combination or a biometric gun safe that comes with a key. This is good insurance to allow you to get into it without having to break into it with a crowbar.

Why Are They So Cheap?

Browse Amazon and you’ll see the bestselling gun safes use biometric locks. But the technology behind them is even more common: throughout history, whole new industries have grown from innovations in older ones.

Like advances in bellfounding for medieval churches made the wide use of cannons in warfare possible (a real irony), they had to wait for developments in other technologies. Biometric locks have three components: a sensor, software, and the lock itself. A sensor creates an image software processes, which then signals an electric lock.

The same image sensors in camera-equipped cellphones scan fingerprints in the locks. Software for bar-code readers compare stored bar-codes to the one on the item you’re buying, the basic process in biometric identification. Devices that convert electricity into motion show-up in everything from flippers in pinball machines to fly-by-wire actuators on fighter jets. Battery-powered ones open and close latches in biometric gun safes.

The simple answer is supply and demand. The final piece of the puzzle was image sensors lately becoming widely-available and therefore cheap because we were all buying cellphones. Paraphrasing Shoeless Joe from that movie: “If you buy it, it’ll come in something else.”

Gun Storage For All Gun Types

People can come up with all sorts of odd places to use as storage. My father-in-law kept his firearms in an old tackle box for the longest time. This is not a good place. There are lots of much safer places to put them so that they are out of reach of small children. Here are some better solutions:

Gun Cabinets

American Furniture Classics 12 – Rifle Curio Cabinet

American Furniture Classics 10 Rifle Cabinet

8 Rifle Slider / Curio Cabinet in Brown Cherry

Firearm cabinets sometimes get bad reviews because they are not gun safes. Well, guess what? They are not meant to be. A robber could just as easily break into them as they could an unlocked jewelry box. Firearm cabinets are simple wooden cabinets, although some are quite ornate. They will have glass doors and the firearms will be displayed behind the glass. Most have a lock to keep small hands out, but they are not meant to deter thieves. They are meant to display.

Gun Security Cabinets

Firearm security cabinets are safes. They are made out of sturdy metal. They usually open via a combination lock, whether electronically or manually. They generally come with heavy duty doors, but really can be found at all quality levels, according to most gun safes reviews. Some can be broken into in minutes with a crow bar. Others can not be broken into even with skill, and they are fireproof and often water proof to boot.

Handgun Safes

GVault GV1000D-DLX Mini Vault Deluxe

Stack-On PDS-500 Drawer Safe with Electronic Lock

BARSKA Biometric Safe

Handgun safes are small safes that will not fit rifles. Some are large enough to hold up to five, but many will hold only one or two. These are secure little boxes and you can feel comfortable putting cash or jewelry in them. If you were to be robbed, though, a thief could easily just walk off with the entire safe and worry about getting it open later, so you may not want it to be your only protection. They have a wide variety of lock types, from biometric gun safes, to an electronic combination to a basic lock and key.

Pistol Cases

Plano Protector Single Pistol Case

UTG Deluxe Pistol Case

Discreet Pistol Case/Digital Camo Acu

Pistol cases are even smaller than a handgun safe. Most pistol cases will come with a simple lock and key. They will hold just one pistol. They can easily be carried on your person, as they are quite small. Many put them in their cars for quick access.

Pistol Racks

Pistol racks are an accessory more than they are gun storage on their own. A pistol rack will go on a flat surface, often on the shelf of a security cabinet. Then, it will have slots for the pistol to go one. There will usually be five slots for five pistols. These come in metal, wood and plastic. You may be tempted to buy metal because it is durable, but I would advise against it. There is just more of a chance of scratching the firearm with metal than wood or plastic. Wood has the nicest look to it anyway.

Whether you are a firearms collector with a wide variety of pistols and rifles, or whether you are just a person who owns a firearm or two, having gun safes is very important. You will want to know that your weapon is protected from fire and theft or from someone in your home, such as a child, accidentally getting a hold of it. Thus, in comes Browning safes.

If you are a collector, you may have already looked up a wide variety of gun safe reviews to find the best one. You may have even looked for one of thos nifty fingerprint gun safes.  Browning’s line has been around the last 27 years. Therefore, no matter what types of firearms you collect, it is likely that you will find a Browning gun safe that will accommodate your collection quite nicely. They come in a variety of sizes. If you are not a firearm collector but would like one to store you gun in then you can buy one of the smaller ones; they also come with small pockets or compartments to store other valuables in, which may make it more worth the price.

As far as whether they are better than other brands of safes on the market that will likely depend on what you are looking for. Whether your priority is having one that is aesthetic and blends well with your room’s existing decor, or whether you are looking for the most secure type available, whether you are looking for something within a certain budget, or if you are looking to have a one custom made or adapted to certain specifications. It may be worth your while to think of what your priority is in buying one as there are a wide variety of firearm collections that people own and what suits one person just right may not suit another person.

While Browning’s are not the most expensive brand on the market, neither are they the cheapest. The prices vary greatly depending on what type  you are looking for, from Browning’s Medallion with uni-force lock, which is selling for over US$4,000, down to just US$900 for Browning’s TheftGuard TG15 Sheriff.

Browning gun safes are quite good quality and do offer a wide variety of features according to all gun safe reviews. They are made to look attractive, so they are a nice looking addition to your room’s decor; you can buy them in at least five different colors (depending on what type you buy). The most secure of the brand are their latest model, the ProSteel family. There are a few different models in this family, but they are the most secure of all the Browning gun safes to date. They also come with a Duo Plus Storage Extra system, which makes it easier to store longer guns in one area of it and shorter, smaller pistols in another area of it; there are also small compartments to store other valuables if you wish. It also makes it handy to get the your piece you want out, which is a plus if you have a larger collection stored in it.

Firearms are precious and at the same time dangerous. Every firearm-owner loves his firearms and would not like to lose it or see it damaged. Pistols are an investment for lifetime and need good maintenance and upkeep. Most pistol-owners do not use their firearms very frequently and they have to be generally stored for long periods of time in gun safes. However, dust, moisture and other environmental influences can wreak havoc on your beloved piece of weaponry and may seriously damage it. Pistol cases can help you prevent that from happening: they keep the pistol safe and clean and make sure your weapon works properly when used.

Gun carrying cases also have a number of other uses. There is a high risk of possible damage to your fireamr while traveling especially by air because then you have to necessarily keep your firearm with your luggage and how your luggage, and with it the firearm, will be treated, you can never be sure. These become very necessary in such a situation.

While stored at home, rifles can also be misused, especially by children, and some untoward incident might also result by their misuse. Though rifle cabinets with locks can prevent misuse, cabinets are costly and those who do not own many rifles do not consider them worth the investment. Gun cases with locks prove to be very useful in such a situation. Such also prevent illegitimate use of your weapon in the situation of loss or theft.

They come in a variety of sizes and designs. Some types are explained in brief below:

1. Pelican Gun Cases: These are waterproof and generally come with an unconditional lifetime guarantee. They meet military standards and are designed to withstand any amount of abuse. They come with stainless steel hardware and dual pad protectors for extra security and protection.

2. Tactical Gun Cases: These are suitable for rifles or even pistols. They also have features to protect accessories and ammunition. They are durable, water-resistant and some have exterior and interior molle-compatible panels.

3. Hard Gun Cases: As opposed to soft ones that are cheaper and do not protect your firearm that securely, hard are expensive and offer all-round protection to your weapon. If your have an expensive rifle, you should go for a hard metal case instead of a soft one.

4. Custom Gun Cases: As the name suggests, these are custom made for the firearms owners. The price depends on the complexity of the ordered case. These days, you can get one custom made for your weapons even online.

Some also come with chains, which you can attach to an immovable hard object. These are useful if you are having to temporary leave your weapon unguarded at an unknown place. They are available online as well as in weapons stores. They are worth your investment because no matter how expensive of one you buy, the cost will never exceed the investment you would lose in case your pistol is damaged or stolen. At the end of the day, firearms are dangerous and can be deadly if left naked. Get a gun case today for your weapon if you do not already possess one and help yourself as well as others.

As inferred, a quality safe, like many discussed on this site (Fort Knox, Browning safes, Big Horn…) is the product of mechanical engineering, tested trial and error, hundreds of man and machinery hours, and like any successful selling commodity, the fruit of a well executed business and marketing plan. All that said, you surely can’t be expected to know the ins and out at every unit you come across. But there’s no reason you can’t have someone else point out the well-made ones for you by reading gun safe reviews. Premium safe manufacturers typically apply their own signature touches to ensure that their product protects your valuables, but there’s one common goal that they all share, and that’s security.

Level of security is about the closest to a universally measurable characteristic you’re going to find when shopping for a gun safe. The most common unit of measurement used is the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) mark of approval. UL is a world renown product testing company which other companies hire when they want to put their claims to the test. And ‘test’ they do. UL doesn’t fool around. They have a staff of professional crackers to try to pry, drill, and punch their way into the safe. Not only do they have free reign over how they break in, but the manufacturers are required to give them the blue prints ahead of time. If UL endorses the one you’re looking at, you know it’s built to hold up. Underwriters Labs gives very specific ratings on everything from small office safes to commercial bank vaults. In the interest of simplicity, you’ll want to look for a safe with some level of their RSC (Residential Security) burglary rating.

Unfortunately, unlike burglary protection, fire protection isn’t universally measured. As you browse the many on the market, you’ll encounter any number of fire safe certifications. Whether its a Phoenix seal (Champion), a BTU rating (Liberty), or a third party endorsement like that of Intertek ETL (Cannon and Stack On), make sure you look a little into where you’re putting your money. The fact is, most safe companies make up their own fire ratings, and we’re more or less expected to believe them. Interior dimensions, environmental elements, contents of it; a huge number of factors make it difficult to consistently measure the effectiveness of fire resistance claims, but you can keep your eye open for a few key features.

One, a fire safe isn’t going to protect very well without insulation. Regardless of whether it’s sheet rock or fireboard, generally speaking, the thicker the better. Also important is how it’s distributed. One weak point can cause the whole thing to burn up in a hurry. Make sure that whatever material was used to insulate the safe, was applied equally everywhere. On top of that (literally), you want to find a safe with a tight, continuously welded seal. ‘Stitch welding’, a method often employed on cheaper safes give hot gas an opportunity to make its way through the interior, and once it does, it’s over. The general structure of it is also important. It’s very common for one to cave in during a fire, especially when the ceiling above falls on top of it. To combat this scenario, Liberty constructs the body of their safes out of just two massive pieces of composite steel for unmatched reinforcement. Other manufacturers like Browning and Fort Knox employ very similar methods.

A direct reflection of a safes’ quality, whether it be in regard to fire protection, burglary resistance, or resilience to the wear and tear of time is the accompanying warranty. Call me snooty, but I wouldn’t even consider purchasing a gun safe that didn’t offer some level of lifetime coverage. Of course, there’s a lot of reading of fine print involved. The three or four companies discussed in this article, all cover repairs, replacement, and the freight charges required to win over your customer satisfaction, but it’s not always the case. Some companies will cover anything and everything that goes wrong, whether it be floods, fires, crooks, or manufacturer defects. Others may offer lifetime protection on fires and burglary, but no protection on floods, and five years on wear and tear. One more thing to investigate when shopping for a safe, particularly if you’re looking for used units, is whether or not the warranty transfers to new owners. If you plan on handing this down through your family, and peace of mind is a big concern, make sure they’ll be covered too.

I’ll leave you with that knowledge. If you take a little bit of extra time, read all the fine print, talk to the experts, and find the right product that fits your needs, you’ll wind up with a safe that will keep your valuables protected for generations. Keep reading the Gun Safes Guide for more information on security storage products or make a trip out to.

Gun Safes Under $300

Gun safes under $300 give you a pretty good range. If you are getting a rifle safe, it will be a lower end rifle safe, but it will be sufficient for basic needs. If you are getting handgun safes under $300, you will see that these are high end safes, ones that you can trust in.

One thing that definitely irks me when looking at the rifle safes is some of the reviews. If you are buying a $230 gun safe, you know you are not getting the highest quality, right? It will not have a fine fire proof interior, or a three inch thick door. The metal will be thinner than the high end safes. So, if you come across reviews where it seems that the owner thought they were getting a $1500 safe for $200 and realized that it was actually a cheap safe upon arrival, dismiss them as ignorant and proceed with your research.

Some of My Favorite Gun Safes Under $300:

HOMAK HS30003630 12-Gun Security Cabinet, Silver Vein

$249.78

The Homak 12 gun safe is one of the best gun safes under $300 that you can find. That is nothing to sneeze at in this price range. These gun safes will fit several long guns and rifles. It will depend on what type of rifle that you have. Generally, the amount that they claim will fit is the maximum that will fit. Reviewers claimed to fit anywhere from just four all the way up to ten rifles in this safe.

They boast of steel that is 7/8″ thick. From my understanding, this is the steel around the door frame, and it is legit for them to advertise it as this thickness, but it is misleading. The rest of the safe is made of a much thinner grade of steel. It is thin enough that you won’t want to leave it next even the most rudmentary tools as they will only aid a bruglar with breaking into the safe. For the money, this is a great gun cabinet.

LockSAF biometric fingerprint safe

$309.99

At the time of this writing, the LOCKsaf biometric fingerprint safe falls into the gun safes under $300 category. Hopefully it doesn’t go up because at this price it is a steal. When looking at it, you see that the lid is a thin piece of metal. That is really a misconception. The lid is thinner then the rest of the box because it lifts electronically. If it were too heavy, it would fail to open on command. They have balanced the weight of the lid perfectly. It is heavy duty, but the maximum weight that the electronics of the device will allow for.

One thing I love about this over some of the other electronic safes is the key back up. There is no excuse for any safe of this size to not have a key backup, yet you still see them. Electronics are great, but there is no guarantee that they will last forever. This safe is solid and strong, and possibly the best handgun safe on the market.

V-Line Industries 3842-SA Shotgun Case

$267.30

This is a pretty secure gun safe for the gun safes under $300. First, this is a shotgun case and not a long gun rife case. It is a tad over 40″ long, so you really want to check your guns before purchasing this safe. It will fit two guns. It is not a huge, deap safe, but it will fit anywhere in your home. One reviewer commented that it looked like a breaker box when installed. This is a perfect disguise.

It has a manual lock. It is a five part combination, which is pretty secure. It is large enough that you don’t really have to worry about thieves ripping it off the wall. This safe comes with predrilled holes in the back to allow you to install it even easier.

V-Line Industries 3912-SH Hide-Away Handgun Safe

$255.15

This is another handgun safe that may be one of the best one on the market. Gun safes under $300 are a steal for rifle safes, but they are also the high end handgun safes. This is a prime example of that. This v-Line safe is a strong safe, very sturdy. There are several things to like about it.

One, it has a manual push button combination. It is fast to get into, unlike a dial lock. This is pretty important when you are looking at gun safe that holds your handgun, one that you might want to keep by your bedside.

There are several mounting options, which is also very useful. You can mount it from the top, like under a desk, or on the bottom, allowing you to install it in a drawer. It has a small drawer inside of it that protects the gun from scratches. The drawer is removeable, so if you want more height in the safe, just take it out and add your own padding.

Stack-On GC-910-5 10-Gun Compact Steel Security Cabinet, Green

$229.00

This Stack-On gun safe is one of their several gun safes under $300. This one varies by price depending on which retailer you get it from. At the time of this writing, there is a retailer selling it at a steep discount. This is another gun safe that is made fairly inexpensively. It is not the kind of safe that you want to keep your prized jewelry or spare cash in. It could easily be broken into. It is not fire proof or fire resistant. It is just a steel cabinet that locks. It will hold up to ten guns, depending on their size. Some say it will only hold five guns. If you have long guns, don’t expect the be able to have a shelf at the top, which is customary. The advantage to this safe is the fact that it protects your kids or their friends from hurting themselves. If that is what you are looking for, then this gun will suit you.
