The Legendary Colt 45

Image via Wikipedia

The Texas Rangers controlled the wild West with the Walker colt and used it during the Mexican-American war. It was known far and wide as The Peacemaker. Samuel Colt made his mark on history with his innovations in gun smithing and his manufacturing company continues this today with new products and specialized weapons for law enforcement. There were no gun safes then, but the men still kept things safe.

Samuel Colt was a genius, a planner and a dreamer not necessarily in that order. While on a ship he carved a prototype to this pistol from a block of wood. Among many things contribute to him was the development of mass production of firearms and developing an interchangeable parts system between different models. As a demonstration of this ability to interchange parts, he once disassembled and reassembled 10 pistols into new and different guns. Its Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company became Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC and is located near his birthplace in Hanford, Connecticut. Colt Defense makes firearms for military and law-enforcement agencies; they develop, design and manufacture new weapons. In 2002 thwy split from the parent company.

The Walker colt was very popular during the Mexican-American war and was used by the Texas Rangers. These original guns required much strength and dexterit

y to load and fire. It changed all that and became known as the Peacemaker or The Great Equalizer because anyone could fire these. Therevolver is still produced today in six different calibers, two finishes and three barrel lengths. An original 45 manufactured between 1873 and 1941 is very valuable guns. The US Calvary Single Action Army Colts in very good shape can exceed $10,000.

Each Colt 45 automatic is expertly manufactured from the custom forged blanks to the precision assembly by the skilled craftspeople. Each step of this process is carefully controlled and checked for quality production. All the parts are hand polished with specialized tools. A recommended caliber of its ammo comes with the instructions for each gun; the manufacturer does not recommend a certain brand of ammo but does recommend that only original ammo be used.

The 45 revolver was used by some very famous people in history including The Hanging Judge, Jim Bean, Buffalo Bill Cody, Pres. Teddy Roosevelt, outlaw Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp among others. In 2008, it was on everyone’s lips again, as they repeated the lyrics to Colt 45 afroman, a song made famous by Afroman, a Grammy Award winning rapper. Joseph Foreman, stage name Afroman, wrote lyrics stating all he needed was his pistol and two zigzag babs.

The legend of the colt 45 continues today. This is a quality made firearm that continues to serve its owner well. It creates feelings of safety and comfort in it’s design, quality of construction and reliability.

For anyone shopping around for a handgun holster, there are a number of things you must consider before you make your final decision. Not all are created equal…In fact, there are several models that may appear similar, but are tactically designed for different functional usage. Then there are some leather gun holsters that have specific features you may not be able to find on a nylon model, one example is the leather swivel holsters. Some may fit into small gun safes, where others will need to be stored separately.

Something else that comes to mind when considering any type is the type of safety features incorporated in the particular model you choose. If you are in law enforcement and are looking for an off duty holster, you may only be looking for a level 1, which means there is only one safety measure that keeps the weapon inside it. A level two means there are two safety measures, like a snap over the weapon and a clip on the inside holding the trigger guard, which requires the wearer to rock the weapon forward to release the it.

What about shoulder gun holsters? These are tactically appropriate only in certain situations, if the user is not wearing an outer garment (like a jacket) on top of it. Otherwise, you limit your response time and ability to draw the weapon when in a confrontation. Purchasing a tactical gun holster requires serious forethought. You need to understand that having one or two weapons does not give you the advantage in a situation, if one or both of those weapons are not easily accessible when you need them. It only takes an aggressor a few seconds to clear the distance between the two of you, and in that small window of time you needed to have drawn your weapon and have, it pointed at the target, to effectively stop or minimize the threat.

If you are reaching under your jacket, or kneeling down for your ankle holster, you have now put yourself in a position where the assailant may be out of your line of sight, thus preventing or delaying your ability to get off a clear shot. A nylon holster does not grip your weapon like leather one would, so you are draw time is quicker coming out of nylon, but you need the straps to be secure, since they slide out so quickly.

Whuchever you are looking at, be sure it is made for your model handgun. Most gun holsters fit a variety of models anyway, but also think about where you will be carrying it, and how quickly you can access it. As you can see, buying one is a serious decision that goes beyond choosing what looks cool.

There comes a time in every young person’s life where they develop an interest in firearms. Of course purchasing a real gun or rifle is a bit too dangerous for young and inexperienced users, a BB or pellet rifle can me much the same way, even if they are stored in gun safes or even cheap gun safes when there is no adult supervision. Why not purchase an airsoft sniper rifle? Airsoft guns are a relatively new development in the recreational pseudo toy gun market, they are pretty cheap and they deliver a lot of the same enjoyment that a young person would get from a BB or pellet gun without the same dangers.

As a parent, relative or friend, you may be asking what airsoft sniper rifles are. Air soft weapons were developed for a variety of reasons including training for military and police personnel, recreational activities and sport much like paint ball guns. They are suitable for these uses more so than BB or pellet guns because they shoot plastic ammunition ranging from 6mm to 8mm in diameter. Airsoft weapons shoot at a rate of less than 700 fps (feet per second). While it would still sting being shot by this on your bare skin, it is much safer than BB gun counterparts which shoot metal ammunition and can have a velocity rating of over 1000 fps and in some cases far greater. They are replica weapons that model many famous designs. They come in handgun and longer versions.

Hearing this as a parent it sounds like these weapons are still not safe however proper training and coaching can ensure fun times without serious injury. A subculture of enthusiasts exists that have ground rules for war games that they play using airsoft rifles. Safety goggles should be worn because even though the plastic balls are traveling at low velocity, there is still a chance someone could seriously damage their eyes. Moderately heavy clothing is worn with a basic inexpensive outfit being a heavy sweatshirt or light coat with a pair of thick pants or jeans. With these on you can still feel a pellet hit you however it will not be painful. More expensive and elaborate attire might be military fatigues or other type dress that enthusiasts commonly wear during re-enactments or games.

You can find cheap airsoft sniper rifles all over the web and most national sporting goods stores carry a good assortment as well. An airsoft sniper rifle, depending on the style and features of the particular model can retail for 35 to close to 100 dollars. They may come with some ammunition however it is recommended that more is purchased because the pellets are easily lost. You will pay slightly more at a brick and mortar operation as is commonly the case when purchasing anything in a store as opposed to the web. A recent search on google for an airsoft m14 sniper rifle yielded many results all with great prices.

Whether you are purchasing one for a young shooter, are an avid gamer or getting training equipment for a department, these revolutionary recreational and professional tools are vast and varied. They are replicas of some of the most famous ones in history and are relatively cheap to buy and maintain. They are safer than BB or hard pellet guns and shoot at a much lower velocity. While safety precautions should still be exercised, you can rest a little easier knowing you or a loved one is only getting hit with a small plastic ball. Sniper airsoft rifles are also loads of fun and can provide lots of outside entertainment with friends and family in a safe and economical manner.

When trying to decide which is best for you, make sure that you take a look at all of your different options. There are many different types out there for you to choose from, just like there are many varieties of gun safes. When deciding, it really depends on what type of firing you are going to be doing, for example, clay or skeet shooting. With all the different types that you can buy, you need to consider what exactly you are going to be doing before you can determine which will be best for you to purchase. We will take a look at several of the various options that are available for you to pick from.

There are specific styles of vests for the ladies. The ladies shooting vests do not look too different from those for the men; the main difference is the way they are cut to fit a woman specifically. These products are designed with women in mind and can be a great way to interest your wife or girlfriend to go shooting with you. They are always more interested in the clothing they will be wearing than the actual activity they will be doing.

Another option you have to choose from is specific vests that are designed for specific types of shooting. If you were going hunting then you would want to purchase a different one than if you were going clay shooting. A skeet shooting vest has specific pockets to hold your shells for your rifle. These are exactly the same as clay shooting vests just a different way of naming it. Hunting vests will have different types of pockets that are more geared towards different types of ammo and supplies.

If you want to look stylish then you may want to look into the leather shooting vest options that are available. Leather tactical vests will be more expensive than other types but they are of higher quality and should last you for a longer period of time. Most of them come with all leather protection since most people want products that they can use in all different weather situations. Depending on the brand, that you purchase will be the determining factor in how much you will have to pay. The cheaper brands you can get for around $60 while the more expensive brands cost upwards of $300-$400.

You now should have a good idea of what some of the various products are that you can buy. It is important to use one when shooting because it can be very complicated to carry all of your supplies and ammo in your pants pockets. Before you buy just take into consideration what you will be using it for and this will give you a good idea of which type you need to buy.

No matter what the weather or season, a true outdoorsman never pauses in his quest for an adventure. But during the winter, when the snow is on the ground or a cold north wind is blowing, precautions are necessary to stay warm. As long as you can keep the head, hands and feet warm, a little cold won’t stop a little outdoor excitement when you are away from the warm hearth and gun safes of your home.

Sheep are one of the few animals that produce a truly warm skin and wool at an economical cost. Easy to raise, sheep provide an array of products from clothing to food. When the skin has been cured and is ready for use, it is soft to the touch and pleasant in color. The wool provides a natural warmth in any kind of cold weather and absorbs moisture away from the body to prevent heat loss.

Sheepskin gloves are soft to the touch, warm and hardy for longterm wear. A good pair of gloves will stand up to almost any kind of abuse and use throughout a season. The outside skin is cured to a hardy suede with a lambswool lining in tack. This makes them weather resistant and wind resistant and they will not shed during wear.

They have a strong top stitching design for comfort and most are washable with gentle soap and warm water. Colors of brown, tan and light tansare available, with white lambswool lining. They are perfect for long winter days outside. They are easy to remove quickly, but once you finish using the hand bare, the glove slips right back on with the body heat still intact to prevent frost bite.

Good gloves are affordable for just about anyone, with prices ranging from very low to high quality and much more costly. If you are going to be spending long hours in cold weather invest in the highest quality gloves you can. They are also available in mitten designs for maximum warmth and protection.

Every hunter and outdoor enthusiast needs a good sheepskin hat for cold weather. Keeping the head warm will prevent heat loss from the body. Choose a trapper style hat for the best all around protection. It has a heavy suede outer side and is lined with strong, thick wool.

The hat can be worn in various styles, but for cold weather wear, it has ear and neck flaps with an under chin tie. Wind resistant, this type of hat will keep your head warm and dry. The insulating wool will pull sweat and moisture away from the body so heat is retained for continued body temperature control.

After a hard day outside, it is good to come home to a pair of sheepskin moccasins. With a solid leather sole the shoe can be worn outside for short periods of time – just long enough to grab a couple of pieces of wood for the fireplace, where you can sit and warm your feet in comfortable sheepskin slippers. They are lined with very soft lamb wool and are always a perfect ending to a cold, fun day. Available in all sizes, the moccasins are well made for longterm wear and comfort.

The airsoft sniper rifle is used in a shooting game in which the BBs are propelled out of the chamber by forced air. These weapons are not classified as firearms and are legal for people of any age in the United States although some cities have their own specific regulations, but should still be stored safely in gun safes, preferable your best gun safe. They can range in price from under $100.00 to over $300.00, depending on what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay.

Airsoft sniper rifles get their power from batteries which have to be carried on it while in use. The storage area of the batteries is one of the differences between the brands, as well as the choice between manual, semi or full automatic scope and, if there are sights, whether or not they are adjustable. There really is no right or wrong rifle, it is strictly down to the personal preference and fit of the individual, as well as what they will be using it for.

When you are looking for the best airsoft sniper rifle, you need to look at the feet per second it can fire for a specific gram of BBs. For example the Cybergun AK-47 has 380 FPS with .2g BBs, while the Mauser Tactical Pro Bolt Action has 450 to 475 FPS for 2g BBs, yet the M14R AEG has only 320 FPS with .2g BBs. You also need to take the effective range into account. These three weapons were picked randomly to demonstrate what to look for, and in no way are they being recommended.

When shopping, pay close attention to what the rifles are made out of and the life expectancy of them. Some of them are mostly metal, which will increase their life expectancy, as well as the weight of the rifle. They also come in different lengths and some have adjustable butts, so you can get a better fit. As with buying a real firearm, if it does not fit you properly you will not be able to shoot it accurately. This is also when having adjustable sights can really be a benefit.

When you are looking for a deal, remember that a cheap airsoft sniper rifle is not always the best option, just because it is cheaper. Check and see what accessories come with it, because if you have to pay extra for basic accessories that are normally included, you may end up paying more in the long run. You need a battery and a battery charger; some come with scopes, while others do not, Be sure to make a list of what you need, then make sure you know what your bottom line cost is. Sniper airsoft rifles can last for years when you get one of good quality.

Glock 26 Accessories: Holster, Grip

Accessories

Holsters

Grips

The glock 26 is a powerful, concealable 9mm pistol with a capacity for 10 rounds. It came out in 1995 in the aftermath of both pro-gun and anti-gun laws. The pro-gun laws were new state laws that eased restrictions on carrying concealed weapons, while the anti-gun law was a federal law restricting firearm magazines to a capacity of 10 rounds or fewer. The government may some day realize that all firearms are safe for owners who take care of their pistols and keep them locked in gun safes. Anyway…

The glock 26 pistol, like other Glock pistols, has a design that is clean and simple. The trigger is a little stiff and short. There is no safety, so you must know what you are doing. It is light and small, can fire repeated shots rapidly and the recoil is reasonable. Most police officers, who are the primary users of this weapon, report that glock 26 shooting is surprisingly accurate for a subcompact. This pistol is very reliable and will give you many years of service if you care for it properly.

Pistol Glock 30 caliber 45 ACP, stripped

Image via Wikipedia

The best way to get a good deal on a Glock is to buy one used, while taking the proper precautions. A used glock 26 can be purchased from websites such as gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com for around $400, or you might find a better price at a local pawnshop. Your precautions involve learning as much as you can about the seller. With the pistol websites there is not as much information available on sellers as with the less specific websites such as Amazon.com, so you should contact the seller directly and ask a lot of questions.

For glock 26 accessories such as holsters, the best way to get a good deal is to make your purchase on Amazon. There are more sellers there than on the firearm websites, so more bargains are available. The key to a good Amazon experience is to know how to search, and as with the gun websites, to research sellers and their ads carefully.

Good Amazon searching involves using neither too few nor too many words, and using the filters available. For example, “holster glock 26″ is the right choice of words when looking for a holster, while using just the word holster would be too broad of a search and adding words like quality or black makes your search unnecessarily narrow. Good filters to apply would be to specify new or used, or auction vs. fixed price.

When researching sellers and their ads, check the feedback score. It should be at least 99.5% positive and you should look for ratings from at least 100 buyers. Don’t just look at the percentage; read the actual reviews from at least a few buyers. When looking at the ads, make sure the picture is of the actual item being sold, read about what condition the item is in, verify that the seller will accept returns, and make sure the shipping cost is reasonable.

Shooting Accessories – From Traps to Targets

Whether you are looking for shotgun, trap, target, rifle or clay shooting accessories you are bound to find what you are looking for in the market today. This article provides a little background on these exciting extras (and go way beyond gun safes) for the avid enthusiast.

Shotgun Shooting Accessories:

As with most firearms, accessories for shotguns are vast and varied but don’t get overwhelmed. Accessories for shotguns in general can be broken down into a handful of categories such as sites, stocks, barrels, chokes, chamber, trigger or magazine components, cleaning tools and solutions and straps or slings.

Of course, there are a variety of smaller accessories that don’t really fit into a category such as ergonomic coverings for rifle stocks. A personal favorite is the pistol grip forend, which offers greater firing stability and faster pump action. Extras exist for virtually any use you have for your shotgun.

Trap Shooting Accessories

These extras are used heavily for shotgun ranges and recreational shotgun firing and are also known as clay shooting accessories. For those of us that don’t know what a trap shooter is it is a device used to fling clay disks into the air for shotgun target practice. Traps come in many different styles and designs and can be manually operated with a pull cord or they can be electric.

Some of the most basic traps retail for under 100 dollars and must be mounted to a sturdy object. They are manually operated and can hold about 2-3 clay disks or pigeons at a time. Even though the trap can hold this many clay disks, it will throw them all at once and not one at a time. The most sophisticated traps can retail for thousands of dollars and can hold 70 or more clay disks that they are able to fling one at a time. These models are usually mounted on factory carts with air filled tires and batteries.

Some even come with remote controls, sweet! Other models may have chairs for the operator attached to them and other more extravagant features. For the fair weather shooter, a decent thrower that flings disks one pull at a time should suffice.

Target Shooting Accessories:

Clay Pigeon Trap

Image via Wikipedia

If stationary target firing is your thing, there are many options out there for you. Of course, there are the basic paper targets with silhouettes or other graphics on them and the classical bulls-eye target. More targets that are fun are hanging targets or stands that make shift targets can be mounted to such as tin cans. Targets on hanging stands can be made of metal and different shapes can be purchased such as common circles with targets on them to birds and other animal silhouettes.

Bowling pins are also popular target shooting items. Some manufacturers will even sell them with pictures of notorious public figures such as the former president of Iraq Saddam Hussein. Other accessories commonly associated with target shooting but that should be used when ever using a fire arm are safety glasses, which come in a variety of stylish designs, ear protectors to keep out the loud noise, or more discrete ear plugs.

Rifle Shooting Accessories:

Many categories of rifle shooting accessories are similar to that of shotguns because they are both long guns. Stocks, sites, magazine and trigger components all relate to accessories for rifles. The main differences lay in the types of ammunition and corresponding components that can be fired from rifles or shotguns. Rifles primarily fire bullets while shotguns primarily fire buckshot, which is a bundle of small ball bearings.

Shotguns do fire bullet type projectiles however; they are called slugs and are not typically similar to bullets in their design. Some of the cooler accessories for rifles include conversion kits to turn a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic weapon, high powered scopes that allow shooters to hit targets hundreds of yards away and stylish or ergonomic stocks to ease shooting and make your rifle one of a kind.

In today’s market, a person can find almost anything to increase the accuracy, appearance and performance of their weapon. Accessories can be fun to put on your firearm and help you learn about how your firearm works. Various designs for target and trap have made sport gun firing more enjoyable and creative as well as easy to do. No matter what your need a wide range of shooting accessories exist for your trigger happy pleasures. Happy shooting and remember to shoot safely!

Tips on Shopping for A Gun Safe

So your firearms collection is growing on the scale of both inventory and value, and you want to protect your investment. Bravo – consider yourself applauded. Before you go diving into a major purchase, however, there are a few key factors you’ll want to consider. Gun safes, see, may appear to be massive, dumb blocks of cavernous steel, but there’s a lot more that goes into them than that, including a whole lot of your money.

As inferred, a quality safe, like many discussed on this site (Fort Knox, Browning safes, Big Horn…) is the product of mechanical engineering, tested trial and error, hundreds of man and machinery hours, and like any successful selling commodity, the fruit of a well executed business and marketing plan. All that said, you surely can’t be expected to know the ins and out at every unit you come across. But there’s no reason you can’t have someone else point out the well-made ones for you by reading gun safe reviews. Premium safe manufacturers typically apply their own signature touches to ensure that their product protects your valuables, but there’s one common goal that they all share, and that’s security.

Level of security is about the closest to a universally measurable characteristic you’re going to find when shopping for a gun safe. The most common unit of measurement used is the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) mark of approval. UL is a world renown product testing company which other companies hire when they want to put their claims to the test. And ‘test’ they do. UL doesn’t fool around. They have a staff of professional crackers to try to pry, drill, and punch their way into the safe. Not only do they have free reign over how they break in, but the manufacturers are required to give them the blue prints ahead of time. If UL endorses the one you’re looking at, you know it’s built to hold up. Underwriters Labs gives very specific ratings on everything from small office safes to commercial bank vaults. In the interest of simplicity, you’ll want to look for a safe with some level of their RSC (Residential Security) burglary rating.

Unfortunately, unlike burglary protection, fire protection isn’t universally measured. As you browse the many on the market, you’ll encounter any number of fire safe certifications. Whether its a Phoenix seal (Champion), a BTU rating (Liberty), or a third party endorsement like that of Intertek ETL (Cannon and Stack On), make sure you look a little into where you’re putting your money. The fact is, most safe companies make up their own fire ratings, and we’re more or less expected to believe them. Interior dimensions, environmental elements, contents of it; a huge number of factors make it difficult to consistently measure the effectiveness of fire resistance claims, but you can keep your eye open for a few key features.

One, a fire safe isn’t going to protect very well without insulation. Regardless of whether it’s sheet rock or fireboard, generally speaking, the thicker the better. Also important is how it’s distributed. One weak point can cause the whole thing to burn up in a hurry. Make sure that whatever material was used to insulate the safe, was applied equally everywhere. On top of that (literally), you want to find a safe with a tight, continuously welded seal. ‘Stitch welding’, a method often employed on cheaper safes give hot gas an opportunity to make its way through the interior, and once it does, it’s over. The general structure of it is also important. It’s very common for one to cave in during a fire, especially when the ceiling above falls on top of it. To combat this scenario, Liberty constructs the body of their safes out of just two massive pieces of composite steel for unmatched reinforcement. Other manufacturers like Browning and Fort Knox employ very similar methods.

A direct reflection of a safes’ quality, whether it be in regard to fire protection, burglary resistance, or resilience to the wear and tear of time is the accompanying warranty. Call me snooty, but I wouldn’t even consider purchasing a gun safe that didn’t offer some level of lifetime coverage. Of course, there’s a lot of reading of fine print involved. The three or four companies discussed in this article, all cover repairs, replacement, and the freight charges required to win over your customer satisfaction, but it’s not always the case. Some companies will cover anything and everything that goes wrong, whether it be floods, fires, crooks, or manufacturer defects. Others may offer lifetime protection on fires and burglary, but no protection on floods, and five years on wear and tear. One more thing to investigate when shopping for a safe, particularly if you’re looking for used units, is whether or not the warranty transfers to new owners. If you plan on handing this down through your family, and peace of mind is a big concern, make sure they’ll be covered too.

I’ll leave you with that knowledge. If you take a little bit of extra time, read all the fine print, talk to the experts, and find the right product that fits your needs, you’ll wind up with a safe that will keep your valuables protected for generations. Keep reading the Gun Safes Guide for more information on security storage products or make a trip out to.

Gun Safes Under $300

Gun safes under $300 give you a pretty good range. If you are getting a rifle safe, it will be a lower end rifle safe, but it will be sufficient for basic needs. If you are getting handgun safes under $300, you will see that these are high end safes, ones that you can trust in.

One thing that definitely irks me when looking at the rifle safes is some of the reviews. If you are buying a $230 gun safe, you know you are not getting the highest quality, right? It will not have a fine fire proof interior, or a three inch thick door. The metal will be thinner than the high end safes. So, if you come across reviews where it seems that the owner thought they were getting a $1500 safe for $200 and realized that it was actually a cheap safe upon arrival, dismiss them as ignorant and proceed with your research.

Some of My Favorite Gun Safes Under $300:

HOMAK HS30003630 12-Gun Security Cabinet, Silver Vein

$249.78

The Homak 12 gun safe is one of the best gun safes under $300 that you can find. That is nothing to sneeze at in this price range. These gun safes will fit several long guns and rifles. It will depend on what type of rifle that you have. Generally, the amount that they claim will fit is the maximum that will fit. Reviewers claimed to fit anywhere from just four all the way up to ten rifles in this safe.

They boast of steel that is 7/8″ thick. From my understanding, this is the steel around the door frame, and it is legit for them to advertise it as this thickness, but it is misleading. The rest of the safe is made of a much thinner grade of steel. It is thin enough that you won’t want to leave it next even the most rudmentary tools as they will only aid a bruglar with breaking into the safe. For the money, this is a great gun cabinet.

LockSAF biometric fingerprint safe

$309.99

At the time of this writing, the LOCKsaf biometric fingerprint safe falls into the gun safes under $300 category. Hopefully it doesn’t go up because at this price it is a steal. When looking at it, you see that the lid is a thin piece of metal. That is really a misconception. The lid is thinner then the rest of the box because it lifts electronically. If it were too heavy, it would fail to open on command. They have balanced the weight of the lid perfectly. It is heavy duty, but the maximum weight that the electronics of the device will allow for.

One thing I love about this over some of the other electronic safes is the key back up. There is no excuse for any safe of this size to not have a key backup, yet you still see them. Electronics are great, but there is no guarantee that they will last forever. This safe is solid and strong, and possibly the best handgun safe on the market.

V-Line Industries 3842-SA Shotgun Case

$267.30

This is a pretty secure gun safe for the gun safes under $300. First, this is a shotgun case and not a long gun rife case. It is a tad over 40″ long, so you really want to check your guns before purchasing this safe. It will fit two guns. It is not a huge, deap safe, but it will fit anywhere in your home. One reviewer commented that it looked like a breaker box when installed. This is a perfect disguise.

It has a manual lock. It is a five part combination, which is pretty secure. It is large enough that you don’t really have to worry about thieves ripping it off the wall. This safe comes with predrilled holes in the back to allow you to install it even easier.

V-Line Industries 3912-SH Hide-Away Handgun Safe

$255.15

This is another handgun safe that may be one of the best one on the market. Gun safes under $300 are a steal for rifle safes, but they are also the high end handgun safes. This is a prime example of that. This v-Line safe is a strong safe, very sturdy. There are several things to like about it.

One, it has a manual push button combination. It is fast to get into, unlike a dial lock. This is pretty important when you are looking at gun safe that holds your handgun, one that you might want to keep by your bedside.

There are several mounting options, which is also very useful. You can mount it from the top, like under a desk, or on the bottom, allowing you to install it in a drawer. It has a small drawer inside of it that protects the gun from scratches. The drawer is removeable, so if you want more height in the safe, just take it out and add your own padding.

Stack-On GC-910-5 10-Gun Compact Steel Security Cabinet, Green

$229.00

This Stack-On gun safe is one of their several gun safes under $300. This one varies by price depending on which retailer you get it from. At the time of this writing, there is a retailer selling it at a steep discount. This is another gun safe that is made fairly inexpensively. It is not the kind of safe that you want to keep your prized jewelry or spare cash in. It could easily be broken into. It is not fire proof or fire resistant. It is just a steel cabinet that locks. It will hold up to ten guns, depending on their size. Some say it will only hold five guns. If you have long guns, don’t expect the be able to have a shelf at the top, which is customary. The advantage to this safe is the fact that it protects your kids or their friends from hurting themselves. If that is what you are looking for, then this gun will suit you.

All major retailers, such as Wal-Mart, sell gun safes these days. A good safe is essential for anyone who owns firearms, and considering that not all safes are equal, it is important to do research prior to buying Walmart gun safes. If you own any firearm, you need to keep it away from children and visitors. Do not make the mistake of thinking that any ole’ safe will do, because it will not.

With that said, are Wal-Mart gun safes worth buying?

Wal-Mart sells a variety of safety products ranging from portable to electronic from different brands. The price tag ranges from $150 – $1,500, depending on the brand, size, and materials from which the safe or gun cabinet is made. While the price tag is important, it is not the only thing on which you should base your decision; you need to read gun safes reviews. Sometimes you DO get what you pay for, so buying too cheaply is not a good idea.

If you were to go by reviews on the department store’s website, you will see that consumers are overall pleased with Walmart gun safes. The retailer sells products from manufacturers such as Sentry, Honeywell, and DAC SportSafe. Let us take a brief look at each brand.

Sentry: This family owned group has been providing security storage containers since 1930. The products undergo rigorous UL and ETL testing before putting a product out on the market. Despite this, some consumers complain that these products are not as fire resistant as they should be. Nevertheless, the fact that they pass Underwriters Laboratories and ETL testing is one that cannot be ignored, as these two organizations ensure that products meet independent standards and are in compliance with fire endurance safety specifications.

Overall, Sentry safes are durable and strong, both factors of which many consumers rate highly. The units are affordable, but not cheap, and are available with either an electronic LED lock or combination lock. There have been a few complaints by online consumers that they do not provide enough room for as many guns as claimed by Wal-Mart, but are still great products otherwise.

Honeywell: Honeywell safes are mostly given average ratings by consumers. This company does not make the best storage products in the world, but they are pretty good choices for those looking for cheap gun safes. If you are a new firearm owner and are looking for an introductory level of safety, then you can settle with Honeywell. However, if you are looking for advanced security for your guns, you might want to go with something more expensive and of higher quality.

There are a few good things worth mentioning about Honeywell safes. They are well put together with organized shelves and interior lights. The products sold at Wal-Mart have pry resistant doors, so if your main concern is theft, then Wal-Mart gun safes made by Honeywell is a fine choice after you’ve read some gun safe reviews.

DAC SportSafe: These storage units are portable as you will read in a gun safe review or two. The consumer ratings and reviews for DAC SportSafe portable gun safes are mostly above average. If you need something to take on your hunting trips or plan on going on vacation, then this is your best choice in regards to retail gun safes.

DAC SportSafe units are both durable and easy to transport. They are made of 14-gauge steel and can hold at least two guns. The security is enabled by an entry code, for which you are giving over 10,000 programming possibilities. The only complaints that some consumers have about these portable safes are minor in nature. A few minor flaws include flimsy battery compartment, low-quality metal mounting clips, and a door that opens and slams too forcefully.

In conclusion, a Wal-Mart gun safe is worth buying for owners who want a decent amount of protection. All the safes are at least average in quality, and most consumers are satisfied with their purchases. If you are looking for a good retail safe, then Wal-Mart is your best choice. These safes are good enough for their low price, so if affordability is your main concern, they are worth buying.
